Island Life #2

unnamed-1

This picture is so characteristic of island life in Greece that makes me smile: even though it was captured in Santorini, you can see a gathering like that outside a small church of Paros, or Sifnos, or Donoussa… People that talk with their hands, while others -in silence- keep their hands crossed as they listen to the conversation taking place in front of them.

There are so many details that I love in this picture because they remind me of a very familiar reality: the expressive hand gestures, the typical navy cap of the man on the right and the sea pebble as a doorstop; the broom and the plastic water bottle on the hands of the woman that waited until the last minute to clean, just to make sure that the wind won’t bring any more dust before the service; the table outside the church; island churches can be too small to cut the Artos inside; and last but not least, the sunshine that helps people benefit from outdoor life.
