The Katsarelias – Simpson project

Skyros is an island that has an easy-going and self organized character. Unpretentiously beautiful and welcoming, it attracts special visitors, that soon become it’s loyal friends.

Amanda Simpson is one of them. Inspired by this one of-a-kind island, she and Stathis Katsarelias created the Skyros Island Horse Trust in order to protect the also unique Skyrian Horse: the ancient and very rare breed of small horse from the island of Skyros. The Skyros Island Horse Trust – Katsarelias Simpson Stud, helps the Skyrian horse through conservation, education and welfare initiatives.

During a visit at their establishments, we learned a lot about those social and intelligent animals. To watch them run healthy and proud under the amazing island light, was an unforgettable experience; the relationship between the man and the horse is an ancient story of love, trust and communication. At the Katsarelias – Simpson farm, this relationship -along with a genuine respect for the island’s natural environment- is part of a reality.
